I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President Josh Lieb Books
I have mixed feeling about this book. It was different, fresh, funny... at times. But also strange, odd, and flat. I was told by multiple people to read this book and so I finally did. I was a little disappointing by all their build up of this funny story. When I talked to every single one of them they admitted that they had actually listen to the audio book, not read it, so I think they enjoyed the performance of the reader. I wouldn't say don't read it, but just expect as funny as some people say.Tags : Amazon.com: I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President (9781595142405): Josh Lieb: Books,Josh Lieb,I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President,Razorbill,1595142401,JUV035000,Family - Parents,Humorous - General,School & Education - General,Genius;Fiction.,Identity;Fiction.,Politics, Practical;Fiction.,Children's Books - Young Adult Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fiction,Fiction-Humorous,Genius,Humor (Young Adult),Humorous Stories,Identity,JUVENILE,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Boys & Men,Juvenile Fiction Humorous Stories,Juvenile Fiction School & Education,Juvenile Grades 7-9 Ages 12-14,Politics, Practical,School & Education,TEEN'S FICTION - GENERAL,TEEN'S HUMOR,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Family Parents,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Humorous General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION School & Education General
I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President Josh Lieb Books Reviews
He said he laughed several times
I read this book with my son. We both read a lot of books, so when one stands out, it's a pretty big deal to us. I can't even tell you how many times this book had us cracking up. Thank you Josh Lieb, for writing a book that created such fond memories of reading and laughing with my son.
*I'm a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to be Your Class President* is fun. Even if sometimes odd or tedious, it kept me reading and finished in a more compelling manner than has any book I've read in recent memory. That close brings the son-father dynamic to the perfect forefront. It surely has a lot to do with me-as-reader, a son always looking for a father's approval; but I think this book must also resonate with others for its more general character, style, and message. After all, it's easily comparable to Dexter's Lab, and the protagonist (Oliver) is immediately linked to Dexter and his more schizophrenic and evil counterpart, Stewie (from Family Guy). It's a romp, in part at least, because little boys and their shaping of the world, especially the fantasy-reality interplay, well, they're fun to listen to.
If you want something comparable, but with even more wit and with a wondrous girl protagonist, try *Ida B.*
This book was laugh out loud funny. 😄I can't really give this book a age rating. The reader should be ten or above, but honestly you could be sixty and still enjoy this. Out of five stars, I would rate this twenty. It is one of the best books, if not THE best book I have ever read. 📚Overall, it's humor was the best part. But also, the writing style, sarcasm, characters and art put together made this book explode in just... awesomeness. 🎆There just rant words for how good this book is.
I am a 7th and 8th grade teacher and found this book to be a real gem for middle school students; it's accessible, funny, a strong example of narrative voice, and it contains valuable themes and take-away messages. Some reviewers mention the bathroom humor as being a drawback; there is some, but it's not egregious and not the focal point of the book. From this adult's perspective, the meaningful subjects of bravery, fatherly love, acceptance, and confidence compensate for the 12-year-old humor. But Lieb knows just how to hook that age group. I look forward to adding this book to my classroom library as an option for some of my students that don't like reading because they have been dragged through too many "school books." It would be a great summer or independent read for a kid who fits that description.
I just love, love, love and adore this book! Do you have middle school kids or grandkids who don't really like to read? Kids who act like it's the worst chore ever to have to read a book? Kids who'd rather have hot wax poured all over their bodies than be forced to read? Well, THIS is the perfect book for those kids! With the slightest bit of encouragement, they actually *will* read this book and like it. Wait! Did I say, "like"? No, they will love this book. It also makes a marvelous present for all of the adult readers you might know who aren't so snobby that all they can allow themselves to read is Dostoyevski novels, Harold Pinter plays, or Ted Hughes' poetry.
My 10-year-old son is dyslexic so he listens to a lot of audiobooks. This book was a long road-trip favorite, he listened to it once on his own with headphones and enjoyed it so much he wanted to listen to it over the car's audio so that I could enjoy it, too. He and I both enjoyed the book and I'm hopeful this turns into a (at least short) series.
This book was a little too old for my son's age (4th grade), but he's knows the difference between laughing about something that would be considered bad form in real life. So I wasn't too concerned. The only thing that stuck out of me was the usage of the word "slut" while describing another student. However, it did open a discussion between my son and I.
