Volume 13 is the official end of the original story line with Ai Amano, Yota, etc. The series wraps up pretty nicely, if a bit hastily in the last chapter. This book is a spinoff following the story of a new luckless loser and his journey to find self worth. This was a spinoff story that time jumps about 10 years with Yota basically being a mentor character to our new protagonist. It follows a lot of the same plot beats as the first 13 volumes, but just doesn't carry the emotion of the characters I came to love after all those books. If I had known prior to purchasing this book that it was a spinoff story, I probably wouldn't have bothered. This isn't a terrible book by any measure, but it is definitely lack luster compared to the rest of the series.
This reminds a lot like Dragon Ball GT after DBZ ended. It feels the same and looks the same, but we all know its not.

Video Girl Ai Vol 1 Preproduction Masakazu Katsura 0782009159438 Books Reviews
I am a big fan of Masakazu Katsura and I must say that this story is one of the best that I have ever read before. You should read it.... You will love it!
Well, after reading fourth vol. The story gets better, about Youta's feelings. A new girl came to his life called Nobuko and also a new video girl appears trying to erase Ai.... Good Story!
I must say that this is one of the best love stories that I have read. When I started to read it i couldn't stop it. First,I wanted to know what will happen Ai return but with no memories about Youta.
I think that starting from this vol. is when the story comes to its finally.... Youta confess his love for Moemi and she also fall in love with him. At this point there are to many feelings between them. Ai finally has recovery her memory and trying to forget Youta...... To many emotions!
I read the Video Girl Ai series years ago in paperback, and now I get to read it on my ! I love this series, it is so sweet and innocent. It is some risqué humo, but it is pretty tame compared to some newer series that are available these days.
Yota's deadline for submitting artwork for the children's book he's working on is tomorrow, but he feels it won't be up to snuff unless Ai is helping him out with the coloring. Which is probably true since there's always an aspect of being lost surrounding Yota when Ai isn't around. He's also still trying to work out who he really loves. Is Moemi just a consolation prize because he didn't want to get involved with Ai, who he knew was always destined to disappear eventually? But now he knows that Ai can become a real girl if a human falls in love with her so what's stopping him now? I'll tell you. He's a wuss! Meanwhile, his childhood friend Natsumi is laid up dying in a hospital and Ai has made it her mission to find the boyfriend that dumped her and caused her to come to Tokyo in the first place.
Video Girl Ai is suffused with too many characters that are afraid of rocking the boat, so they all just tend to wallow in misery. Yota is afraid to hurt Moemi's feelings by dumping her and going for Ai, while Ai is waiting for Yota to choose herself as the one he loves and get the courage to break up with Moemi. Natsumi has given up on seeing the guy she loves again. The only character that seems to be doing anything to improve her situation is Moemi. At least she hasn't given up on Yota and pursues him passionately even though she perhaps doesn't use the best methods. Video Girl Ai is probably a series that has gone on too long but it's still entertaining if frustrating to read. The side story with Natsumi's boyfriend was actually more intriguing than the main storyline. Still an ok read.
I cannot stress how amazing this series is. I love Masakazu Katsura's works but this is by far his best, far better than I"s his later work and a little better than Zetman (but that's an entirely different genre. Seinen not Shonen like this)
All I have to say is you'll be in tears by volume 11 and crying from happiness by volume 13. This is the only manga to ever make me tear up!
His artwork is amazing as well. Volumes 14-15 are a sequel to Ai but the only character that's in it from Ai's arc is Yota and it takes place years after VGA. I own all the volumes and read them 3 years ago but I'm finally writing a review on it. If you love Romantic Dramas for guys than I highly recommend this series. 10 out of 10 )
