The characters in this book are celebrated for their naughtiness. They lie to adults, steal, and are sneaky and mean. I'm all for creativity and adventure and having realistic flawed characters, but as a parent I can't read this to my kids at bedtime. "Good night...don't you dare ever behave like these kids!"

Ivy and Bean and the Ghost that Had to Go Ivy Bean Book 2 Bk 2 Annie Barrows Sophie Blackall 0765145110709 Books Reviews

I read this to my class and they love it. The characters are so fun and relatable. I would suggest this for grades 3 and below as the characters are in 2nd grade. This is a great series because the books don’t have to be read in order. Such fun reads I find myself laughing as much as the kids!
Ivy and Bean are our favorites! Both Ivy and Bean are relatable, making this series for every girl. Lots of adventure, and learning. My quiet girl likes them, my boisterous girl likes them! We're always excited over Ivy and Bean. If they had merchandise we would buy it, my girls were asking about Ivy and Bean toys, pajamas, shirts, keychains, stickers, tattoos. They love Ivy and Bean!
If you want your girls to learn how to name call, have a bad attitude about new neighbors, how to be mean to siblings, and be self-centered and learn how to be a witch, then this book is for you. It’s a shame since the chapters are just the right length, the page layout with text, sketches and white space is great, and the idea of two girls beginning a friendship is a wonderful plot.
A long time ago a member of the Trotsdale community requested me to read and review the first book of Ivy & Bean. I recently finally was able to get my hands on a copy, and would certainly like to read this in the library.

This story starts out with Bean, your typical tomboy who is very satisfied to have fun. Her mother tries to get her to be friends with Ivy, who to Bean seems to be your typical Goodie-Two-Shoes and thus dismisses her. One day however while attempting to play a prank on her older sister Bean finds out that perhaps Ivy is far more mischief-filled than she had first thought. The reader is then taken on a wild neighborhood adventure with a humorous conclusion.

Regarding the danger that some might find in the play, such as walking fences, causing people to fall in the mud… I have to say that these are normal things for children to get up to. Children inherently desire to take risks. Climbing trees and hiding in bushes is low key. I have noted that more and more people try to tame and insulate children. Is it any wonder now that the current young generation looks for escape and outlet via their electronics? This book hearkens back to an earlier time, the sort that can still be found in some rural communities even if the suburbs and cities try to snuff out explorative play.

I highly recommend this book and series, especially for those that are looking for a light hearted and swift read. Children’s books don’t have to only be enjoyed by children.
Purchased this book for my 7-year-old (2nd grade). She is slightly behind in her reading level so it was hard finding chapter books age appropriate that matched her reading level. Most chapter books were either too young for her or too old. This is the first chapter book she has been able to read without difficulty and she is thrilled! She loves reading now and she can't wait to read when she gets home from school. She gushes about the book to her older sister so it sounds like she is really enjoying the story line as well.
Purchased this second set for my 7 year old who absolutely loves to read but is new to the Ivy and bean series of books , I was very hopeful that she would enjoy the stories , to my surprise she actually fell in love with the entertaining characters in the stories immediately and has already read each book twice and is ready for set number 3 . My only regret was not purchasing the books sooner . Highly recommend these for that special child in your life .
GREATEST BOOKS OF ALL TIME! Even reinspired my own love of reading! The imagination of the author is so adorable... the kids and their characters are so cute and fun and funny and i laughed out loud so many times! i'm 52. shocking. my daughter and i have bonded for HOURS reading these books together. magical moments. sad we are already on book 10! but now she wants to get MORE BOOK SETS so that is HUGE because that means we can continue creating more magical memories together!
